CEBU, Philippines - Aboitiz Equity Ventures (AEV) food arm, Pilmico Foods Corporation (Pilmico) and its wholly owned subsidiary Pilmico Animal Nutrition Corporation are intensifying their market penetration starting with the hosting of an exposition on November 10-11 at the SM City Cebu Trade Hall 2.

Dubbed as “Pista sa Sugbu,” the expo aims to provide  vital information to the market on the opportunity to earn more in bakery, swine and poultry raising.

It will feature different activities that will replicate the fiesta experience  —pakain-palabas-palaro.

In a press conference,  Pilmico president and chief executive officer (CEO) Sabin Aboitiz said that the expo is an ideal venue for people specifically those who are into swine and poultry raising as well as bakery businesses.

Aside from showcasing the company’s new products, Pilmico will also provide the market with vital information on how to make more profit in bakery, poultry and swine raising businesses, amid the tough competition, and the threat of cheaper imported meat products available in the market today.

Amid the declining interest in backyard swine raising in the Philippines, Pilmico is strengthening its stance to make the local swine industry thrive by providing information that ‘there is a way to gain better profit” despite  tougher competition.

In the swine raising industry for instance, Aboitiz said the industry was hit by the proliferation of alleged smuggled meat products made available in the Philippines, specifically last year. Thus, some backyard swine raisers were a bit discouraged to expand or continue with the business.

However, Aboitiz said there is a lot of ways that the local swine raising industry will be able to fight and stay competitive amid the entry of imported meat products in the market. “Some lost money” he said because of lack of knowledge on how to fight and stay competitive.

Pilmico is offering feeds that will help the backyard farmers stay and even grow in the business. “We will teach them how to lower the cost of swine and poultry raising with better feeds.”

The company has also made a special and effective product for the 50 million game fowls in the country branded as “Salto.”

On the bakery business, Aboitiz said bakers will be able to learn on the availability of cheaper yet quality flour. “We would like to educate bakers that they don’t have to buy expensive flour to make a pan de sal,” Aboitiz said.

Pilmico is expecting over 2,000  participants and walk-in visitors on this first ever Pilmico exposition.

Hendel P. Cabral, the company’s vice president for sales, said that there are a lot of ways available on how to stay profitable in the swine, poultry raising, as well as bakery businesses. “We want to show our customers, partners, a platform where they can access vital information. If this expo will be successful, we will replicate this in other areas, and make this an annual event.”

Highlighting the event will be a series of symposia related to swine, poultry and bakery operations, capitalization, inventory, and marketing.

Pilmico’s allies in the animal health and baking industries will also be around to allow participants to expand their network and get the latest updates in the swine and game fowl breeding, and baking and bakery operations. (FREEMAN)
