CEBU, Philippines - Gawad Kalinga San Fernando Rey in Yati, Liloan is the latest recipient of sustainable tables and chairs from Visayan Electric Company.
VECO Community Relations Manager Eric Ching turned over the tables and chairs made of recycled wooden scrap wood for the 92 Sibol students (Gawad Kalinga’s term for pre-school) earlier this month.
San Fernando Rey’s Sibol School becomes the 7th recipient of the environment-friendly kiddie tables and chairs.
In the turnover ceremony, GK Project Director for Liloan Joel Vesta took note of the joint effort to make the school’s immediate need possible. VECO Community Relations Manager Eric Ching emphasized the company’s concern for the children whom he called the hope of the future. The donation was triggered by a letter from GK volunteer Vernon Joseph Go to an Aboitiz Equity Ventures team leader who deemed it proper to forward the same to VECO, knowing Liloan is part of VECO’s franchise area.
At least 80% of the company’s budget for corporate social responsibility projects is earmarked for education. Other equally important CSR endeavors of VECO are for environment and community development within the franchise area. Ching promised GK the donation is just the start of a partnership with VECO. Previous recipients of these environment friendly furniture were pre-schools in Cebu City.
The recipient school is in itself an actualization of donations from different sectors, including Aboitiz Foundation which donated five doors in partnership with exchange students from Netherlands.
Yati, Liloan Barangay Captain Leo Salundaguit thanked VECO for heeding the request of Sibol school and donating useful items for the kids.
Also present during the ceremonial turnover were representatives from DepEd Liloan and other GK Cebu officials. (FREEMAN)
