CEBU, Philippines - Taking into account the rising popularity on unlimited voice calls and text messaging among Filipinos as growth drivers, Globe Telecom posted an increase of its mobile revenues by P1.9 billion for this year compared in 2011.

In its recent company performance report, Globe mobile revenues reached P33.3 billion for the first half of 2012 which is considered higher from the same period of last year.

The company also reported a six-percent annual growth for both of its mobile data and mobile voice revenues.

Mobile data revenues increased to P16.2 billion as of June 2012 from P15.3 billion for the same period last year which is driven by the increasing smartphone penetration, growth in unlimited SMS subscriptions and the launch of value-based data browsing plan.

Mobile voice revenues, on the other hand, had posted an increase from P16.1 billion for the first half of 2011 to P17 billion for the same period due to the increase in bulk and unlimited voice subscriptions, VOIP, and roaming services that compensated for the decline in regular outbound voice and international services.

Mobile revenues account for 82% of the company’s consolidated revenues that include broadband, fixed line data, and fixed line voice.

Globe President and Chief Executive Officer Ernest Cu said that the inclination of the users towards its value offerings and affordable mobile browsing fueled the sustained growth of the company amidst the competition.

“Despite intensifying competition, our subscribers continued preference for our value offerings such as unlimited SMS and voice subscriptions as well as highly-affordable mobile browsing allowed us to sustain the growth momentum of our mobile business,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Globe recorded a 12% increase from last year for its postpaid and prepaid subscribers which totaled 31.7 million as of June 2012.

Along with continued demand for customizable postpaid plans and top-of-the-line phone offers and other programs, the postpaid segment shares 33% of the total mobile revenues which is 4% higher than last year.

The company’s prepaid brands posted a steady year-on-year performance with revenues at P22.4 billion that was primarily led by its mass market – the Touch Mobile brand.

Globe considered the delivery of Nokia Lumia 800, Blackberry Curve 9220 and 9320m and the Samsung Galaxy S III in the market, which all perform best with Globe Unli Surf Combo Plans, as its key product offers and initiatives that have contributed to the company’s latest strong performance.— (FREEMAN)
