Soon to rise near Marco Polo Micro Polo boutique Hotel to serve Mainstream Market

CEBU, Philippines - Tourism advocate and capitalist Robert Lim Joseph announced the establishment of a boutique hotel that will be situated at Nivel Hills in Cebu this year, to address the need for affordable, yet classy accommodation facilities in Cebu.

Joseph said that the hotel that will be called “Micro Polo Hotel” will sit on a 315-square meter property near the five-star Marco Polo Plaza Hotel in Cebu.

The construction of Micro Polo will start anytime this year and will have a total of 30 rooms in a four-story building.

According to Joseph, despite the existence of more new hotels in the City, tourism related investments like building affordable accommodation facilities in Cebu is what it needs to prepare for the influx of the local and international MICE (Meetings, Incentive, Conference and Exhibition) market, as well as the budget conscious travelers.

Although Joseph believes that Cebu is capable of attracting the high-end tourists that needs first class accommodation facilities, there is also an opportunity for local capitalists to venture into small-scale tourism related investments, such as building boutique and personalized accommodation facilities.

Earlier, economist Bernardo Villegas urged local businessmen to take advantage of putting their investments into tourism related businesses.

Villegas said that there is a great room for a lot of small-scale entrepreneurs to make money out of the growing tourism sector, specifically in Cebu.

While big ticket investments in hotels are ventured by the big companies, like the building of five-star hotels, triple A resorts, among others, small and medium entrepreneurs on the other hand should make the opportunity to address the need of the growing mainstream travelers and the budget conscious tourists such as the domestic market.

The increasing number of Filipinos traveling within the country could be a big market to tap for entrepreneurs in starting small-scale business, like unique souvenir products, bed and breakfast accommodation facilities, food joints, among others.

Villegas underscored that the Philippines still need to develop affordable accommodation facilities, like bed and breakfast concept, while most Filipinos do not stay in fancy and expensive hotels when they travel for leisure.
