Bad examples

On our way to work yesterday we noticed several drivers violating traffic laws. There was one driver, who did not bother to follow the proper lanes at the Cebu South Coastal Road and did not wait for the light to turn green.

There was a motorcycle driver, who turned left even if the left turning light was red.

Then there were jeepney drivers, who allowed people to board their vehicle in the middle of the street and later another one, who had cargo loaded while also in the middle of the road.

Luckily for these bad eggs, and unfortunately for the many who follow traffic rules, there were no traffic law enforcers or policemen, who apprehended the violators.

Many drivers think that without the law watching, they can just disobey traffic laws. This attitude showing lack of intelligence is very dangerous.

One reader sent us a text message the other week about the vehicles parked outside Camp Sotero Cabahug along Gorordo Ave. during the flag ceremony of the Cebu City Police Office.

The reader said that he understands that there is a need to clear the parking area for the policemen to have their formation, but why park their vehicles in an area that is specifically marked as NO STOPPING ANYTIME?

While the vehicles are removed after the flag raising activity, the practice always causes traffic congestion in the area.

The reader said that there is a parking area at the Cebu Business Park that the CCPO and other units in the camp can use during such activities. Maybe the policemen or the drivers of the vehicles are just too lazy to walk.

Our reader hopes Sr. Supt, Melvin Ramon Buenafe would do something about this.

We have also observed that the NO STOPPING ANYTIME signs on this area are often violated.

This is another case of following the bad example of the law enforcers.

This is a busy time for travelers and we wish all our readers a safe trip.

Safety of course begins with making sure your vehicle is ready for the trip.

Jesson Morata sent us email recently reminding the readers about BLOWBAG. If you don’t know that yet, that means Brake, Lights, Oil, Water, Battery, Air, and Gas.

It is also important the driver gets enough rest before the trip.

Our wish really is to have better comfort rooms in the various areas where motorists and commuters stop.

We don’t really mind paying to use the comfort rooms as long as they are clean.
