Roadside parking

MOTORIST’S CORNER - Nimrod NL Quiones -

The past few weeks we talked to readers, who have noticed how some roads have been converted into parking lots by residents and establishments.

One reader, who visited a golf club in Pardo, said that he was very surprised to see a long line of vehicles parked, not along, but on Aznar Road.

He said that he did not see that many vehicles the last time he went to the place.

We told him that this is a perfect example of people buying vehicles even if they don’t have a place to park them. The roads are not supposed to serve as our garage.

Several readers have also noted the vehicles parked on the road at Nivel Hills. One even said that if a wayward truck would hit a few vehicles, the damage would easily amount to several millions of pesos.

If you have noticed, we have revived the Motoring section of The FREEMAN starting last Sunday.

The Motoring section will be out every Sunday and we hope you would also support this new endeavor.

The condition of the road at the South Road Properties (SRP) is deteriorating fast. We have received many email, text messages, and personally met people who have complained about the condition of the road.

One reader asked if the city is still interested to push the SRP to investors as the maintenance of the road seems to have been neglected.

One text message asked if this is because of the political turmoil in the city. We told the one who sent the message that we have no idea.

We did see some people doing repair work on a portion of the SRP a few days ago, but we haven’t seen them again.

Several vehicles coming from construction sites leave mud on the road, which could greatly contribute to its degradation.

In some areas, the construction firms are very careful about such and have a crew ready to clean up after the trucks.

Unfortunately, we cannot say the same for many other places where we see mud on the road that are just left there waiting for the rain to wash them away.

Isn’t there supposed to be a law that requires those responsible to clean up after the mess that they leave?
