Waterfront Mactan upgrades services to stay competitive

CEBU, Philippines - With a number of new hotels mushrooming in the Mactan and Lapu-Lapu area, the existing hotels are stepping up to continuously serve the increasing market of local and foreign visitors.

Waterfront Airport Hotel and Casino, which has one of the best locations being closest to the Mactan Cebu International Airport, has a lot of plans for this year. 

Ma. Theresa Fernandez, the newest Hotel Manager of Waterfront Mactan, said that they cannot keep a blind eye that more competition is in the area.

Fernandez said that in terms of business, it’s there and logistically they have an advantage because of their location.

But she shared they need to step up more and upgrade their services in order to compete structurally with the new hotels.

“We have to go back to the basic,” shared Fernandez who said that they will be starting on the changes as soon as possible.

Fernandez, who formerly managed Waterfront Insular hotel in Davao, said she prefers to start internally and produce their own funds for the transformation.

She explained that they have started to cut on costs which they believe is unnecessary.

For the first quarter of this year, she said that they will be starting on improvements in their services first like refresher courses for their staff and employees.

“Wherever you are in the hotel, we will make sure you feel that genuine smile and sincerity because we would like to make every guest feel at home away from home.”

Also they will be starting on the transformation of their rooms and by the second quarter of this year, Fernandez revealed that they will be upgrading internal equipments like in the kitchen, housekeeping and engineering.

She said that most of their bigger hotels in other areas are undergoing transformation to better service their increasing clientele.

Fernandez said that despite the competition, they are still confident with the performance of their hotel since it is at par with international chains.
