IBM drives "Smarter Planet" strategy to Cebu industries

- Ehda Dagooc -

CEBU, Philippines - Innovation and technology provider IBM is set to reinforce its introduction of “Smarter Planet” strategy to Cebu industries specifically retail, and manufacturing sectors by helping them create an action plan towards maximizing technology cost-efficiently.

Slated on February 1, 2012, IBM will bring in experts for an exclusive session around IBM smarter planter computing solutions on how it can help the Cebu retail and manufacturing industries.

According to IBM, retailers will be able to integrated sales strategies across channels and harness technology for intelligent “sense and respond” retailing.

Manufacturing players on the other hand, will know how to respond to immediate economic challenges such as optimizing and realigning in a rapidly changing industry.

Today, everything computes. Intelligence has been infused into things no one would recognize as computers: appliances, cars, roadways, clothes, even rivers and cornfields.

This is  the daily reality of an instrumented, interconnected and intelligent world—a Smarter Planet—which IBM began chronicling nearly three years ago. Realizing its promise, however, will require more than infusing computation into the world. We also have to make computing itself smarter.

So, as our planet gets smarter, our computing systems must do so, too. They must become far more automated, robust and adaptive—that is, industrialized. Thankfully, a new, smarter computing model is emerging. It is designed for data. It is tuned to the task. And it is managed in the cloud.

IBM Smarter Computing solutions can help companies in Cebu and the Visayas Region create an action plan to reveal business value and solve tough issues.

The struggling manufacturing industry in the Philippines, would be given solutions to continuously improve the productivity and flexibility of global operations to leverage economies of scale, get supply chain visibility and have access to specialized service and skills. Product commoditizations such as Smart Phones are driving service transformation and is the next more important business-to-business gadget.

While, the global retail market is evolving, IBM re-introduces its solutions for the dynamic retail industry in the Philippines.

“Retailers face fierce competition from other retailers, manufacturers, and from all selling directly to consumers. They need to become customer-focused enterprise, providing consumers with a seamless shopping experience that delivers the merchandise they want, where they want it and at a price they are willing to pay,” said Irene Catane, country executive for general business, IBM Philippines.

She added that as the Philippine economy continues to regain equilibrium, leaders have to decide on how best to operate and thrive in the “new normal”—velocity and volatility.

“Opportunities for these industries to become smarter are vast and IBM is in a good position to support them,” she added.

Through its Smarter Planet strategy, IBM helps companies, governments and cities infuse intelligence into the systems and processes that make the world work smarter-- from power grids, buildings and roadways to agriculture and waterways. IBM's clients consist of many different kinds of enterprises and represent every major industry and endeavor. — (FREEMAN)
