Lighthouse IP Group to hire 100 this month

CEBU, Philippines - Lighthouse Software Cebu, Inc. (LHSCI), a global multi disciplinary service provider in the field of intellectual property, will hire 100 more workers this month to beef up its operations in Cebu to meet the growing needs for trademark database.

“We are expanding our workforce to upscale the capacity of our operation in meeting deadlines,” said LHSCI Philippines managing director Patrick Van Dun.

International trademark database is a major project in LHSCI. Thousands of trademark data from 87 countries that were kept in paper stacks since 1976 needs to be digitalized and structured for easier access or retrieval.

“Creating a trademark database is a very important asset for global and even local companies worldwide,” said Van Dun.

With 27 employees in its office in Mactan Economic Zone (MEZ 2), LHSCI has expanded to a total of 250 employees last year.

Van Dun said the company is projecting to increase its workforce in Cebu to 500 by the end of 2012.

“It’s our target for 2012 but it can change. We might need more,” added Van Dun.

LHSCI is part of the multinational Lighthouse IP Group, which is based in The Netherlands and operates in seven other countries including the Philippines.

Currently, it has subsidiary offices in China, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, Belarus and the United States. The company is also expanding globally with new offices in Egypt, Argentina, Brazil, Peru, and South Korea to open within this year.

Lighthouse IP Group offers a wide range of services derived from its IP expertise. Its core services include intellectual property information, data services, and translation services.

“Our operation in the Philippines processes Patent, Trademark and other IP- related content for global information providers. It also handles translations, and provides software and database solutions to add value to international data projects,” said Van Dun.

The company’s data entry job serves as an opportunity not only for fresh graduates and the unemployed but also for undergraduates or students who want to earn some income.

“We are only looking for people who can speak English fluently, possess intermediate computer skills, and can type 20 to 30 words per minute. We also only require an educational attainment of two years in college at the minimum,” explained Van Dun.

He added interested applicants can choose between 6AM to 2PM and 2PM to 10PM shifts.

Moreover, some higher level management positions such as Business Development Manager, Database Administrator, and Technical Software Analyst are still to be filled up.—(FREEMAN)
