Media One launches travel TV show to boost domestic tourism

CEBU, Philippines - Media One, the production company of Real TV (RCTV) Channel 36 and the chief carrier of Cebu’s premier independent travel and adventure channel,“Make My Trip Travel TV,” has partnered with Mindanao Travel Channel to help boost the domestic tourism in Southern Philippines.

Make My Trip Travel TV is a travel and adventure TV show dedicated to the adventure outdoors and less traveled destination pursuits industry.

Based on the recent partnership which took effect last month, Mindanao Travel Channel carries Make My Trip TV and some of the RCTV Channel 63 shows such as Around Town hosted by Alexis Yap in Davao, one of the country’s important markets and is seen to Sky Cable Channel twice dail.

Lyndon Angan of Make My Trip TV said that by bringing these partnership together under one roof, the partners have molded influence through TV in the travel and tourism field, the outdoor sector is focused on growing the industry by engaging with community and working with partners within the field.

 Angan added that the collaboration also provides opportunity for less-promoted tourism attractions in the Southern Philippine region, and that is expected to lure not only domestic travelers but also the growing adventure tourists around the world.

 “As of September 2011, we are proud to announce that we’ve added the iconic masthead of Mindanao Travel Channel to our stable of category leading television broadcast with Real Cebu Television Channel 36 (www.rctv.com.ph) as the main carrier of the program,” Angan said.

As distinct as they are on every level – subject, style, look, approach to subject matter – Mindanao Travel Channel and Make My Trip Travel TV share a focus on, and commitment to, the pursuit of outdoor activities, and they compliment each other perfectly.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) revealed that one of the most successful attractions in the rural communities in attracting both local and foreign tourists, are not only the beach component, but also nature trekking, different forms of adventure tourism, bird watching, among others.

Aside from attractions, rural folks can also take advantage tourism to augment their livelihood, in offering souvenirs and local delicacies to tourists.

In the United States alone, adventure tourism is a US$450 million industry, the Philippines, which has ample of sites that can be developed for this type of activity to generate good tourism revenue, while providing local residents, especially rural people to earn livelihood from (adventure) tourism revenues. - THE FREEMAN
