SkyCable launches HD technology in Cebu

CEBU, Philippines - Cable television provider SkyCable Corporation has introduced its high-definition (HD) technology in Cebu, following its move to full digitalization of its connection network in the country.

The Lopez-controlled company offers HD service via four SkyCable HD Packs for varied consumption needs, said Alan Supnet, the company’s head for consumer marketing and business development.

“Cebu is ready for HD,” he said expressing confidence that number of HD subscription is seen to rise in the next few days after the introduction of the new technology here last week.

“SkyCable is leveraging its leadership position in digital pay TV to provide subscribers in Cebu the best and widest array in digital home entertainment content to suit individual preference for greater viewing experience,” he said.

The HD service is being made available in different packages, such as Innovation Pack, which provides Discovery HD World, History HD, and HBO HD. While the “Revolution Pack” offers Fox Crime HD, Fox Family HD, Fox HD, Star Movies HD and National Geographic HD.

Supnet also bared the availability of its NBA Premium TV (HD) Pack for NBA fanatics and the Power Pack that offers all the 11 HD channels.

SkyCable ushered in the ear of digital in the local cable broadcasting industry when it launched the SkyCable DigiBox in 2008. The DigiBox was a groundbreaking innovation that revolutionized TV viewing in the country.

With its strong commitment to raise the Filipino cable TV experience, Supnet said SkyCable is bringing in the first true digital HD cable TV service to the regional area. In Metro Manila, there are now a total of 6,000 HD cable subscribers.

Aside from Cebu, SkyCable will also offer HD cable technology to other regional areas such as Davao, Cavite, and Laguna this month.

“The company continues to grow to keep up the growing entertainment needs of Filipinos,” he said.

He added that with the current depth and breadth of digital content and HD program offerings of SkyCable, complemented by its planned innovations that are currently in the drawing board, he expressed optimism that SkyCable will continue to enjoy its market leadership position in Cebu in the coming years.

In Cebu, the company is set to achieve higher growth this year in its subscriber-based in Cebu of at least 33 percent, with the company’s strong move provide affordable Cable TV subscription, and improved quality.

At present, Sky Cable recorded a total subscription count of a little over 50 thousand, this is 10 percent of the company’s over 500 thousand subscribers nationwide, said Ronnie L. Pacio SkyCable director for Visayas operations. — (FREEMAN)
