Road hazards
Have you passed V. Gullas St. recently? Yes, the street that we used to call and still refer to as Manalili is a virtual obstacle course.
Since this is a one-way street coming in from M. J. Cuenco Ave. is like getting into a maze or maybe a slalom course where you need to weave in an out to avoid the holes.
There are already signs that repair work would be done as the holes seem to look more like rectangles instead of your usual rounded ones that emerge after the rain. The problem is that while some initial work has been done, the holes have not been patched up.
What are we waiting for?

We join the call to restore our streets to the actual numbers of lanes that we built for the moving vehicles.
This topic was recently brought up by columnist Valeriano ‘Bobit’ Avila.
It indeed is very unfair for motorists that the roads meant to accommodate four or even six lanes have been narrowed down because of people, who use them as parking areas, for business, wakes, discos, and whatever reason they deem is their right as it is in their barangay.
Last Saturday night instead of three south-bound lanes of Imus Ave., there was only one that was left for vehicles to pass.
This was because of what might have been a Miss Gay Pageant of Barangay Lorega San Miguel, which is one of the most notorious in terms of their barangay officials tolerating illegal parking.
Try driving through the narrow streets of the barangay coming from Echavez to Imus or back and you’ll see many vehicles parked where they should not be.
The barangay officials of Lorega San Miguel have tolerated such practice for many years now.

Last week’s freak accident that killed the driver of a jeepney at Sikatuna St. send shivers down our spine as we often pass the place on our way to the downtown area.
The poor driver was just so unlucky that he was at the exact spot when the tree fell.
This is not the first time that we’ve seen such happen and we hope that something would be done to help ensure the safety of the public.
Many years ago, one of the palm trees on F. Sotto St. (beside the INC church) fell on top of a car. Luckily no one was hurt. We’ve also seen some branches fall off trees.
Road safety is everybody’s concern. Including the owners of properties where the trees are and also the local officials.
We cannot just cut down trees, but experts can help make sure that they would not just fall.
