Cebu BPO sector to benefit from Accenture's expansion

CEBU, Philippines- The Philippines, Cebu in particular stands to benefit from the global expansion efforts of technology and outsourcing giant Accenture as it would mean increased employment generation for the country.

Accenture’s ASEAN Geographic Unit hints that the Philippines will play a critical role in advancing the company’s growth ambitions in South East Asia, as announced by Shane Ryan, Accenture managing director for ASEAN, and financial services in Asia Pacific.

“We think that Filipino talent has a lot to offer to the world,” said Ryan in a press conference held recently.

 Aside from utilizing the ASEAN region to serve Accenture’s growing global market for technology and outsourcing services, it will also tap the region as the company’s top market growth driver.

In fact, the company is now serving clients based in ASEAN countries, including the Philippines, specifically for its management consulting service.

After 25 years in operations in the Philippines, Accenture is now employing over 21,000 people, including its two facilities in Cebu.

According to Accenture Philippines country manager Manolito T. Tayag the company’s goal to reach at least 25,000 employees this year, will also include its plan for expansion in Cebu operations.

However, Tayag refused to divulge concrete information on the planned Cebu expansion, only said that the company is currently evaluating for a probable opening of 3rd facility in Cebu.

This year, Accenture Philippines has further expanded its Manila delivery center with opening of its facility at Globe One in Eastwood, Quezon City, occupying nine floors of the building. The company has now a total of 14 facilities of which 12 facilities in both its Manila delivery centers, and two delivery facilities in Cebu.

In its ASEAN Growth Agenda, Ryan explained that Accenture is in the best position to help companies seize the opportunities offered by the economic vigor of South East Asia, which is poised to become the next economic powerhouse.

Hence, he said the vast growth and expansion opportunities within individual South East Asian countries and across the ASEAN region.

“Accenture is making a conscious decision to invest in areas where we see growth both in the short and long-term for example, analytics, mobility, cloud/virtualization, expand our geographic footprint and focus on servicing our domestic clients in the Philippines,” Tayag said.

Accenture Philippines is a pioneer of Accenture’s Global Delivery Network (GDN) fof more than 50 delivery centers around the world. The Philippine Delivery Centers is the second largest node in the GDN and the third largest location in terms of headcount, next to the United States and India.

With more than 21,000 professionals in Metro Manila and Cebu, Accenture Philippine’s operations is made up of the largest and one of the most mature IT companies in the country by far.

Accenture opened its Cebu Global Delivery Center in 2007, and also opened its BPO arm or call center operations here few years after. Late last year, the company opened its second facility in Cebu located at the Cybergate IT Center on Fuente Osmeña.
