That detour again
“What has happened to the ban on smoking in public vehicles? I see many jeepney drivers who smoke and the CITOM is not arresting them.”
This was what a reader told us when we bumped into her at a mall last week.
She said that she always tries to call the attention of the driver to the city ordinance banning smoking, but most often she just gets the “angry stare” from the one who is smoking.
Her observation about the authorities not doing anything is true as we often see PUJ drivers who are smoking and nobody is there to stop them.
We’re hoping that our CITOM enforcers and other people tasked to implement the laws would do something.

A reader, Norman Atwater, sent us this email:
My complaint is the intersection of S.B Cabahug & Jose Rizal at that intersection whether coming from the north or the south they force you to make a right turn & no longer be able to go straight accost. If you are heading north you have to head toward the Sen. Marcelo Fernan Bridge and take the turn off at the bottom of the bridge and make a U turn under the bridge and come back up to Jose Rizal so you can use the North part of the road to go to Liloan. The U turn under the bridge is FULL OF POT HOLES and when it rains you never know how deep the hole is and do damage to your car this has been like this for several weeks maybe months and NO one cares about fixing it.
Coming from Liloan going south when you get to the intersection of Jose Rizal & S.B. Cabahug intersection again they make you turn right and go to the cross over near Super Metro Gaisano fight the on coming traffic to make the turn and go down that small street (do not know the name ) that is full of parked cars & tricks.
Who ever came up with this idea needs to have it looked at again I see no reason why you can NOT go straight through the intersection They have at least 2 traffic enforcers in the stall at the intersection and if they would get out on the road and do there JOB they could direct traffic. How easy this could be resolved.

We have received several complaints about the detour being implemented in Mandaue, which our reader complained about.
We hope that Mayor Jonas Cortes would tell the person in charge of traffic in Mandaue City to look into this matter as it really seems such a hassle.
We passed the north road on our way to Lapu-Lapu City from Liloan and we had to take a detour before would could even head to the Marcelo Fernan Bridge on a Sunday when there was not much traffic.
The condition of the road under the bridge, which is used for detour, has also been the subject of many complaints and we hope something will be done about this.
