Insurance fraud?

A reader, who sent us email the other week, has accused a policeman of trying to help settle a vehicular accident in a southern town involving a company vehicle and a motorcycle.

The reader claimed that since their van was in the right lane, the motorcycle driver was the one who was at fault in the mishap.

The problem was not with who was at fault, but the fact that the motorcycle driver was allegedly a minor and did not have a driver’s license.

The reader alleged that the policeman has told the father of the driver to go to the owner of the van and settle the matter, but since the motorcycle driver did not have a license, they asked that somebody’s license be used instead.

We are sure that this is not a rare situation considering that we have personally seen many underage drivers of motorcycle on the highway especially in the towns.

This is something that the local officials must address as accidents involving drivers without licenses would mean that the insurance company won’t pay.

The police or whoever must also be careful in suggesting solutions like using somebody else’s license as this is tantamount to insurance fraud.

With several days of sunshine the residents of barangays Pakigne, Tubod, Cuanos, and Manduang all of Minglanilla have heaved a sigh of relief as they don’t have to pass through the knee-deep water that clogs up in sition Tingkoro, Pakigne.

The barangay has reportedly resorted to using a suction pump to drain the water in the area, but this is of course only a palliative measure and won’t work much when the heavy rains come.

This happens on a provincial road and many residents in the areas mentioned have already brought to our attention their sad fate.

We hope that the town officials of Minglanilla would bring the matter up with the provincial government for the good of the residents.

Less than a hundred meters further into the road, there are also huge potholes that have not been repaired compounding the problems of the residents.

The people of these four barangays can’t help but feel neglected as this problem with their road has long bugged them.

A reader commented that while the CITOM seems very excited to apprehend drivers of Mandaue jeepneys that pass though Osmeña Blvd., the traffic body doesn’t seem to care about the jeepneys that run without their headlights at night.

“What is happening to this city,” the reader asked.

“Why can’t they stop the bad practice of the jeepney drivers, which they claim is done to help preserve their batteries?”

We told him that there is the much talked about Operation Kilum-kilum, but aside from the publicity, nothing much seems to have happened.

CITOM used to be a pride of Cebu City, but now, there is so much to be desired from this agency.
