Metro Cebu Development Council

We continue to receive a lot of complaints about the bad roads and the flooding and we expect them to keep on coming as nothing seems to have been done yet about the bad roads.

One reader asked if we could help get a particular road repaired. We told him that we can only write about it and continue to bug our officials to act on the problem. He did not seem very happy that we could not do much.

Instead of getting angry, we were actually flattered that somebody thinks we can do a little more than help our fellow motorists have an avenue to air their concerns.

Another reader asked about the proposed Metro Cebu Development Authority, but that is still far from being a reality although there is the Metro Cebu Development Council, which we hope won’t get stalled because of politics.

Let’s see what happens next after their meeting tomorrow. Traffic is one of the issues to be tackled aside from drainage and garbage disposal.

A reader asked us last week about those wires hanging over Escario St., which seem to be hanging dangerously low.

We learned from the Visayan Electric Company (VECO) that the wires are owned by telecommunications companies and not the power firm. VECO lines have already long been transferred.

The reader said that she is worried that a truck might get snagged by those wires or they might just simply fall on a passing vehicle as it looks like they would do so anytime.

Last week, we saw some men working on the wires, but we still see them so tangled and still hanging precariously low.

You can’t blame motorists if they are worried if you see these wires for yourself.

Jesson Morata sent us this email last week;

The rains the other week has not just brought nuisance to people, workers but as well as motorists. The rains not only damaged our roads it has also cause inconvenience to both private and public vehicles. Its good to know though that local government units and agencies are now taking immediate steps to address the flooding in some areas here in Cebu. I think this should be a collective effort for both private and public entities for a long-term solution to the problem.

On the other hand, the Mactan-Cebu Bridge Management Board (MCBMB) must now take appropriate steps to address the recent “spectacles” made by some individuals, in their attempt to jump-off the bridge and end their lives. The recent incidents involving some individuals have caused nuisance to motorists who pass by the area because of the many “usiseros” who flock to the area to watch, thus clogging up the road and making it hard to vehicles to pass. It was worsened by the poor crowd control. Learning from experience, the MCBMB I think has learned their lesson. I bet new concrete steps will be under taken if ever another attempt to jump off the bridge will be done by any individual.
