Left turning vehicles cause traffic

We received email last week from somebody, who is not only a reader, but also a very close friend and almost like a brother, Leonardo 'Jojo' Roa, Jr., who shared some of his views about traffic in the city.

Here is his email, which we have also forwarded to Citom:

Read your article re the roadblocks. Interesting and true. This practice of holding a wake on public roads is really both a headache and dangerous for motorists. Hope the CITOM and City Hall can do something about this.

Anyway, after reading your article, it also reminded me to write this email to you about the intersection along S. Osmeña Boulevard and R. Palma Street. I hope that CITOM will consider about disallowing vehicles of making a Left Turn from R. Palma Street to S. Osmeña Boulevard, obviously because R. Palma Street is relatively close to the ingress and egress end of the SRP Tunnel. And these vehicles coming and making a left turn from R. Palma Street should access S. Osmeña Boulevard thru V. Sotto Street where a traffic signal light is, thereby would not create a traffic jam into and from the SRP Tunnel.

I pass thru the SRP Tunnel about 3 to 4 times a week on our way to southern Cebu, and as always - we encounter this problem of left turning vehicles jamming the flow towards the tunnel. A Citom Enforcer is sometimes observed, but unfortunately just standing by the other corner and only then when there is already a vehicle build-up will the enforcer direct traffic flow.

As we all know, majority of Filipino, particularly Cebuano, drivers do not observe road courtesy and perfect example is even go on bumper to bumper even though there is already a painted junction box on an intersection thus blocking vehicles that are supposed to be moving forward with the green light. What more if there are no traffic lights on an intersection. Besides, I think these left turning vehicles from R. Palma are just trying to evade and lazy to wait for the green light if they pass thru V. Sotto Street.

I hope that Jack Jakosalem can look into this and do the appropriate action.

Two tents blocked one lane of Bonifacio street last week because of the fiesta celebration.

When we asked if fiesta celebrations are exempted from the tent ban, we were told that it's not supposed to be exempted.

If we have policies that are just neglected for reasons of politics, then we better not have such policies in place.

A friend posted a video on his Facebook page about the flooding in AS Fortuna St., Banilad, Mandaue City.

We have received so many complaints about this problem, but nothing seems to have been done.

What are the officials waiting for?
