Canon products have parts made of recycled materials

CEBU, Philippines – Canon, a pioneer in custom imaging solutions, has joined the global call of protecting the world from complete destruction due to excessive Carbon emissions, among others.

In an interview, Canon Marketing Philippines Inc. president and chief executive officer Alan Chng said most of Canon’s products that are in the market have parts made from recycled materials.

He said the company started collecting old printers and other products two years ago and recycling these materials for use in their new products.

Aside from corporate responsibility, Canon is doing this to meet the demands of their clients, especially the large wholesalers.

“Every time our buyers, especially the large ones, ask for request for quotation or RFQ, there is always a clause (on environment protection,) included,” Chng said.

Earlier, AOS (art of colors) product development manager for Asia Pacific Tony Lee said there is a growing international market adopting the lifestyle of health and sustainability (lohas) that manufacturers of electronic products, among others, have to consider in designing their products.

“The lohas is an emerging market.This is a cultural connotation, an evolution of lifestyle.The issue on environment has already become a main issue of mankind and the company is taking this issue (seriously,)” he told a press conference recently at the Cebu City Marriott Hotel.

Lee said some 34 percent of AOC’s market lives on the Lohas principle.This is why AOC has developed and produced a new line of “green” monitors that are equipped with environment-friendly top-of-the-line technology.

Meanwhile, Canon’s Chng said the company will be introducing more new products in the Philippine market this year, saying Canon, looks at the country, including Cebu , to be a “very potential” market for the company.

“Cebu growth (rate) is more than that of the other cities in the country,” he said.

Canon allocates 10 percent of its annual revenues for research and development. The company’s sales in the Philippines in the first quarter of the year grew double digit compared to the same period last year.

Canon manufactures printers, cameras and lens, among others.
