Freeman Cebu Business

Safe travel

MOTORIST’S CORNER - Nimrod NL Quiones -

One of the staff of The Freeman complained to us last weekend about how they were ill-treated by the driver of a taxi that they took from a resort in Mactan supposedly back to Cebu City.

The driver, according to the complainant, asked them to pay a fixed fare instead of using his meter plus an add-on to the fare.

The staff of this paper and her companion had to disembark from the vehicle and luckily they found another taxi nearby that brought them to the city.

Unfortunately, due to her anger, the staff of this paper could only remember that it was a Spider taxi. Maybe Kito Obeso, the big boss of Spider taxi, can remind his drivers about how to take care of passengers.

Kito, who we personally know, is a very nice and kind fellow. His drivers should follow his example.

There would be many of us going on long drives this week to take advantage of the Holy Week break to head to our hometowns or visit friends and family.

While there are still open service centers, we suggest that you have them take a look at your vehicles to ensure that such is fit for travel.

Aside from taking precautions about our vehicle, we must also remember that most accidents are caused by the human factor.

We wish all of you a safe trip and please don’t forget that the Holy Week is not simply just vacation time, but also a reminder to us Christians about how the Lord sacrificed His son Jesus for all of us.

The Talisay City government and police continue to disregard the long line of vehicles parked on the Cebu South Coastal Road particularly in that area where there are small restaurants near corner Rabaya St.

There is supposed to be an outpost of the traffic body of the city nearby, but the people manning that outpost don’t seem to bother to turn their heads to see the problem.

A reader complained to us about two trucks loaded with wooden pallets that were racing at the South Road Properties last Thursday afternoon.

She said that the cargoes were not even properly lashed and might fly out of the truck bed and hit others.

The reader wondered where the SRP police where that afternoon since the two drivers did not seem to care about the other people on the road and honked their vehicles’ horns as if telling everyone to get out of their way.

Maybe the SRP cops should be more vigilant and start apprehending these crazy speedsters, who think they own the road just because they drive large vehicles.

A reader sent us this text message.

“Sir, I doubt if government will act on habal-habals since it is the election season.”

The reader asked not to be named, but he said that he has complained about these motorcycles for hire in their barangay, but no action has been taken as each time when authorities act on such complaints, there are town officials, who get in the way of the police.
