PLDT attributes success to SMEs, BPOs

-

CEBU, Philippines - PLDT, the largest telecommunications country in the Philippines, recognizes the huge contribution of Small and Medium Enterprises and the emerging Business Process Outsourcing companies for their continuous success in Cebu.

This was shared by PLDT CEO Napoleon Nazareno during a recent visit in Cebu for their “Pasasalamat night,” which was the company’s way of acknowledging their Cebu partners for the support over the years.

Nazareno shared during an interview that they are very happy with the results here in Cebu with regards to PLDT’s performance for this year and that Cebu is still a top revenue generator.

He said that they have done well for 2009 noting a three percent increase nationwide, with Cebu playing a big role in this growth.

According to Nazareno, Cebu being recently included in the top 10 emerging global BPO host in the world has a very big impact and that the industry is doing very well in promoting their sector.

He said that Cebu is also living up to this image and reputation and that they are happy to be part of the developments.

Nazareno also recognized the big chunk of their success to the presence of SMEs in the country, which he said should be given priority since they have driven the economic growth of the country with 99 percent of the businesses in the country included in the micro, small and medium enterprises.

He said that they will be continuing with the projects they have intended for the SME’s in the coming year to help the industry grow and that their aggressive efforts will be pushed through as they are bullish with how the industry could still further develop.

Nazareno said that as of now, they are looking forward for the fourth quarter with the presence of the holiday season and also for the growth in 2010.

“This year was not without challenges but we did quite well,” said Nazareno who explained that they had less than expected but then their revenues were still up.

He said that their fixed line subscriptions increased which was why they had the three percent increase however they are eyeing to double this by next year. (AJ de la Torre)
