Manual to help promote RP as MICE destination

CEBU, Philippines - Through the distribution of the Conventions and Exhibitions Manual in schools offering tourism-related courses, more seminars will be accomplished every year in order to help promote the country as a meetings and convention destination.

The manual, which was reprinted and distributed by the Tourism Educators and Movers of the Philippines last September and presented by the Philippine Convention and Visitors Corporation as the first part in a series of manuals, is intended to help out the Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions sector.

MICE is a specialized sector of tourism covers exhibitions and events that is recognized as a big help in the promotion of tourism in the country.

The manual covers all the aspects in coming up with conventions and events from planning, bidding and organizing and the practice of skills needed like proper time and organizational management, which would greatly contribute to the success of the event.

The manual targets to upgrade the level of professionalism in organizing and holding of international meetings, congresses, conventions and conferences in the country through an overview on the entire process and serves as a checklist on what should be done.

Robert Lim Joseph, the president and founder of TEAM Philippines , along with members of the academe and the Department of Tourism, said that they are really hoping that they would be able to help the students most especially in gathering knowledge on how to organize activities, big or small.

Joseph said, during the 888 news forum, that the manual would greatly contribute also to the teachers who are training students in organizing and coming up with activities.

This is in line with the objectives of TEAM Philippines said Joseph, which is “to assist the higher education institution members in the enhancement of their relevant curriculum offerings and to assist them in providing seminars pertaining to value-oriented education and work ethics.”

Joseph, who decided on the reprinting, update and distribution of the manual said that this would benefit the students and the teachers because the contents of the manual includes all the things needed to prepare them for an event organization , which is normally taught for one whole semester in school.— AJ de la Torre   (BANATNEWS)
