CEBU, Philippines - After the success of the first Rock N’ Run last August 16, the organizers see the importance of staging the same event as more have already “caught the running fever,” and this would also be means of promoting further a healthy lifestyle for residents of Cebu as well as the tourists who would like to join in.
Aiming to gather five to eight thousand runners for this second run, organizers of the event are optimistic that they would be able to achieve this as marathons and running competitions are continually taking place in Cebu .
Headed by the Cebu Health and Wellness Council, the Rock N’ Run 2 will take place on November 8 and will still have the 3K, 5K and 12K race lengths.
Joe Deresas, technical director for the event, said that they are aiming to double the number of participants from the first Rock N’Run by inviting more universities and colleges in Cebu .
Deresas said that they have also sent invites to different companies and industries as well as to the neighboring provinces.
CHWC President Oscar Tuason said that more and more residents are becoming running enthusiasts and this is a good help in the promotion of the Cebu as Health and wellness destination.
Jenny Franco, chairman of the Cebu Chapter of the National Association of Independent Travel Agencies of the Philippines, also a member of CHWC, said that they are encouraging not only the residents of the provinces but also the tourists who are currently in the country at present or those who are planning to come and visit.
Franco said that in runs organized by different groups over the months, other nationalities are already joining in and these tourists are aware of running as one of the best sports.
She said that in the Rock N’ Run, they will be providing bands and music for entertainment along the route, which would add to a more “fun run.”
The Rock N’ Run will be happening in the last day also of the five-day event of the 5th Beauty Health and Wellness show organized by the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Spa and Wellness Association of Cebu. —AJ de la Torre
