Mobile phone manufacturer Nokia is moving towards introducing technology solutions to its users in the Philippines, to sustain its leadership in the cellular phone industry.
Nikka Abes, corporate communications manager for Nokia Philippines said that the company is now negotiating with big network providers such as Smart Communications, Globe Telecom, and Sun Cellular to offer solutions behind Nokia phone products, through the OVI technology.
OVI is a unification of Nokia’s Internet services which covers music, games and maps, among others.
This new user interface was initially rolled out in the Philippines early this year, starting with OVI share, OVI store.
OVI will integrate your mobile phone with lots of social networking websites - Digg, LinkedIn, Facebook, Flickr, YouTube, Twitter, Google, Yahoo!, iLike, Dopplr and MySpace so you can access and enjoy all these sites from your mobile phone. Nokia intends to make the OVI platform open to 3rd-party developers.
Abes said this year, Nokia will be partnering with network providers to offer OVI solutions to Nokia users in fixed rate package, such as the introduction of OVI mail to the mainstream mobile phone users, especially those that using entry-level or low-end phones. —Ehda M. Dagooc
