How did they pass inspection

MOTORIST’S CORNER - Nimrod NL Quiñones -

We received some complaints from readers about dilapidated vehicles that continue to be operated.

One reader shared the gripe of many about him having to make sure that his vehicle was in A-1 condition when he brought it to the MVIS for inspection prior to the renewal of his registration.

“Dako kog gasto para lang mupasar sa emission (testing) ug nagtrabaho tanang suga ug wiper,” he told us.

“Unya makakita na lang kas dalan nga nay mga sakyanan nga kagang-kagang apan bag-o ra ug sticker sa rehistro. Giunsa man na nila pagpasar sa MVIS?”

Another reader said that he has noticed many vehicles that are smoke belching but seem to get away with it.

“Where are those teams that stop smoke belching vehicles? Daghan smoke belchers but dili madakpan,” he said.

He related to us how he was once behind a smoke belching truck while he was driving at the South Coastal Road.

“I wanted to get the plate number, but the smoke was so thick that I had to pull over to avoid an accident. Bahala na lang ang plate number madisgrasya pa lang ko,” he said.

What he wants to know is if there is still that team that goes around apprehending smoke belching vehicles.

We don’t know if it is still around, but we think it still is.

Those who complain against illegal parking sometimes sound like people, who are just trying to find fault at something that ought to be done for the good of the greater number of people.

While we support the proper implementation of traffic laws, we also hope that there would be a fair implementation of the law.

How come the illegally parked vehicles in areas that are notorious for the toughies are left alone? Why can’t the tow trucks go there and pull them out like all those illegally parked vehicles in Lorega-San Miguel.

How come the traffic authorities are more concerned about night parking when there are many drivers who commit the more dangerous moving violations during daylight?

People can’t help but ask these questions about the sincerity of authorities to put some sense back into the implementation of laws.

Selective enforcement is just like no enforcement.
