MOTORIST’S CORNER - Nimrod NL Quiones -

With temperatures soaring, it is high time to make sure we check the cooling system of our vehicles.

Go to a reputable service center if not your vehicle’s casa (dealer) to have your cooling system checked. By this we mean not only your air-conditioning system, but also the cooling system for the engine.

One of the best ways to avoid the stress of driving is to make sure that your vehicle also stays cool.

The jeepneys that have taken over corner AS Fortuna and the national highway in Mandaue City and we have received many complaints about that area.

One reader said that this place is always crowded with the jeepneys that stop to pick up passengers without really pulling over properly.

Recently, another reader met an accident in the area when her vehicle was hit by a jeepney.

The Mandaue traffic authorities better take a good look at this area.

In Cebu City, the two left turning lanes to V. Rama Ave. from N. Bacalso Ave. seem not enough. This is because many drivers continue to try to make a left turn from the two lanes that are supposed to go straight.

Many motorists have complained to us about this situation and the fact that the traffic enforcers don’t seem to care.

Another intersection that has been the subject of many complaints is corner Imus Ave. and Gen. Maxilom particularly the left turning lane (again) towards Maxilom.

Many motorists called our attention to the fact that instead of two lanes, only one lane has been left for those wanting to make a left turn because many drivers heading towards Mabolo would occupy the second left turning lane.

“There are always traffic enforcers in this area, but wala sila’y nabuhat,” complained a reader.

As expected the move of the Land Transportation Office to increase fines for traffic violations is met with opposition from the transport sector.

This should not however stop the LTO from implementing the fines. This increase shall be viewed as a way to encourage drivers to toe the line.

Maybe the traffic bodies must also do the same. The reason why we support such is that every week, we receive so many complaints from motorists about how others blatantly violate traffic rules and get away with it.

In places where traffic fines are very high, people follow the law.
