TeleTech employs 15,000 nationwide

-

As one of the country’s fast-growing business process outsourcing (BPO) companies, TeleTech has officially surpassed its target of 15,000 workers in the Philippines across its 10 delivery centers in the country.

Maulik Parekh, Teletech’s vice-president and General Manager for Asia, said that the company has reached this milestone last month and will be continually hiring more people towards the end of the year.

“We still continue to hire and will probably add over 200 people before the end of the year,” he said.

Since it began operating in the Philippines in 2002, TeleTech has consistently increased its investments in the country.

However, unlike other BPO companies flocking mega Manila, TeleTech has pioneered the strategy of "bringing jobs to the people" as it has chosen to invest in the countryside and into second-tier cities such as Bacoor in Cavite, Lipa City in Batangas, Bacolod in Negros Occidental and Cainta in Rizal; other than key cities such as Cebu, Dumaguete and Iloilo.

Parekh noted that TeleTech’s strategy is in line with the government’s goal of growing the BPO sector which is dubbed as the country’s sunshine industry, into more areas and provide employment opportunities that benefit many Filipinos.

“We are set to open facilities in San Fernando, Pampanga with over 1,700 seats and in Sta. Rosa, Laguna with close to 1,000 seats. We plan on opening these new facilities during the first half of next year,” Parekh outlaid.

Parekh gave credit to the support they have received from the government over the last five years as it directly contributed to their growth in the country.

Globally, TeleTech operates over 80 customer management centers in 17 countries and according to Parekh; their Philippine operation is one of the fastest growing among the TeleTech network.

“This reflects the Filipino workers’ customer service skills, language skills, and impeccable work ethics. All of these factors account for TeleTech’s expansion and growth in the country,” he said.

TeleTech’s next goal, according to Parekh, is to increase the head count in the Philippines further to 25,000 employees over the next two years. During this period, he anticipates TeleTech to open anywhere between four to eight more facilities.

“We firmly believe we can achieve this target. Based on studies, the total addressable BPO market worldwide is about $450 billion. As a global industry, we are nowhere even near that right now. There is still plenty of room for growth,” he stressed.

TeleTech is one of the largest and geographically diverse global providers of business process outsourcing solutions. Here in Cebu, it started just last year and is already accommodating a full capacity workforce in its 800-seat facility in Mandaue.

Utilizing the Six Sigma-based quality methods, they now boast of having a 25-year history of designing, implementing, and managing critical business processes for Global 1000 companies.

They also developed deep domain expertise and supporting 300 BPO programs serving approximately 135 global clients in the automotive, communications, financial services, and government, healthcare, retail, technology and travel and leisure industries. – Rhia de Pablo
