CITOM should not forget the other areas of the city

One thing that was very obvious last week was that there have been fewer vehicles passing the Banilad area to avoid what was expected to be a major traffic bottleneck brought about by the construction of the flyover.

The construction has actually started even if we haven’t seen any heavy equipment as of last week, but the contractor has started to do the preparatory work.

Things are expected to become bad this week, but we believe many have already learned to live with the planned construction and have found alternate routes to take to their destinations.

We just hope that the effort of CITOM to straighten out the mess that’s being foreseen in Banilad would not mean that it would forget about the traffic situation in other parts of the city.

Sometimes its disappointing to bring up traffic matters to a city official who sits in the CITOM board, but then who do we turn to if not to him?

One of the areas that we have been getting a lot of complaints from our readers is in Gen. Maxilom Ave. (Mango) where taxi cabs are parked on the roadside late at night.

The same situation (we’d say even worse) can be spotted at Juana Osmeña St. (near the gate of STC) also in the evenings.

Our readers are wondering if the CITOM is really on top of the situation since nobody seems to have made any effort to apprehend these traffic violators.

It is disappointing to be treated coldly, but then if we don’t complain, who will?  If we keep quiet, this thing will go on and we will suffer.

Although it has been a relief to many people from the south that the SRP is now open 24 hours a day, there are still many vehicles that pass the main highway.

Early last Saturday afternoon, there was a traffic build-up for both the north and south-bound lanes, but there was nobody in authority there.

We did see a silver-colored Toyota Revo of the CITOM parked in front of the barangay hall of Bulacao, but where were the enforcers?

Do they have to wait for people to get mad to do anything?

We received email from a reader last week complaining about the traffic situation on Juan Luna Ave. (formerly San Jose de la Montaña) near corner M.J. Cuenco.

Here is the email from Pinky Sy:

Please check the intersection of Mabolo church and that bound for Ayala intersection. In between that stretch of road (coming from SM Reclamation Area), jeepneys stopping near Kaffee Alde and barbecue stations alongside the street are a common sight despite the signage “No stopping anytime”. I wonder too why CITOM are not around especially during peak hours (around 5:30 pm to 7 pm).
