CITOM operations at Clavano St.

- MOTORISTS’ CORNER  By Nimrod Nl Quiñones -

“Why is the CITOM only interested in implementing the ordinance on overnight parking and does not care much about what happens in the morning?”

This was a question asked by a reader from Clavano St. in barangay Capitol Site.

He is asking this question, because he noticed that the CITOM is very keen on apprehending the vehicles that are parked on the street in the evening, but the traffic authorities cannot be seen in the morning when the place is turned into a parking area.

We’re sure this is not the case only in Clavano, but also in many other side streets.

Another reader told us, “the CITOM is only concerned about Orchid St., but I won’t tell you why.”

We hope this is not true, but this is not the first time we heard this report from our readers.

If you happen to be coming from Echavez St. heading towards Gorordo Ave., you would have to do a guessing game at the intersection.

The reason for such is that the traffic lights facing Echavez are busted.

Is this the city that we’d like to show our visitors who are here for the Sinulog festivities?

This is not the only intersection where the lights are busted.  We hope that somebody is really checking the traffic lights to make sure they are functioning.

Expect traffic jams this week in many areas of the city particularly near where there are activities being held in relation to the Sinulog celebration.

While the inconvenience may just be temporary, many motorists have already aired to us their hopes that the CITOM and barangay officials would work hand in hand to at least ease the woes of the motorists and commuters.

The CITOM and barangay officials must already identify the side streets that the motorists would take to avoid the road closures and make sure they are clear of obstructions and also that there would be people at the intersections to help direct the flow of vehicles.

This is not something too hard to think about, but it seems that every year the same problem happens.

We regularly go to the Perpetual Succour Hospital for our therapy sessions and there is just something that seems very wrong when you enter that narrow road from Gorordo Ave. – there are too many obstructions.

Knowing that the road leads to a facility that caters to emergency cases, we understand that it is the duty of the city and barangay officials to clear this street of obstructions.

Nothing is being done about this obviously since we often see cars and motorcycles parked on the street making the road even narrower.
