New concept of traditional Chinese medicine hits Cebu

-

With the goal of promoting a new concept of traditional Chinese medicine in the country, a China-based company that has started penetrating the Philippine market has now explored Cebu as another growth area.

In an interview with Tianshi Philippines, Incorporated Biotechnological Industries Chinese Health Care Culture Medical Consultant Dr. Hector C. Dela Cruz, he said that Tiens is striving to penetrate the whole world through promoting a new concept of traditional Chinese medicine and restructuring the perception of the old concept that everyone has been accustomed to.

Tiens is currently present in 190 countries around the world and has regional branches in 110 countries. They also have strategic alliances with multinational companies in more than 20 countries.

Their products according to Dela Cruz have been manufactured in the United States and were based on concepts of bringing balance to everyone’s health and well-being. “It’s a matter of balancing the yin and yang forces to achieve good health,” he said.

Their practices as Dela Cruz pointed out will not go against mainstream medicine but instead aims to compliment it. He said that they still need medical opinions for emergency cases.

Tiens started its operation in Manila last 2001 and in July they decided to open an extension office here in Cebu at the Keppel Tower in Ayala Business Park wherein they offer services like: acupuncture, reflexology, face analysis, tongue diagnosis, pulse diagnosis, among others. In their newly opened branch, Tiens also give free lessons on the appropriate ways of conducting these diagnoses.

Tiens also sell various Chinese products from Acupoint Treasure, Tiens Comb Massage Gadget, Nutrient High Calcium Powder, Tiens Spirulina, Tiens Double Cellulose, Tiens Cordyceps Mycelium and Tiens Vigor Rousing.

“We want to educate people on how to treat themselves. We don’t want to compete with the doctors. It’s balancing of both worlds while correcting the wrong notion they have for Chinese medicines,” said Dela Cruz.

Dela Cruz also outlaid plans of putting up an acupuncture school next year once they receive an accreditation from TESDA and CHED.

Tiens is a member of the Spa and Wellness Association of Cebu (SWAC) and according to Dela Cruz they are already trying to negotiate with spa operators on the utilization of their products and on getting training courses in their business center on reflexology and acupuncture, which he think will be a very marketable service on spa and massage salons.

Knowing how meticulous the Cebuano market could be at times, Dela Cruz is quite hopeful that Tiens will be able to capture a very big market here in Cebu, the way they did in Manila.

“The Cebuano market is still amazed of what traditional Chinese medicine can do. But we are very positive of the market as we know that Cebu is booming, the very reason we decided to open an office here,” he added.

After recently celebrating its 6th year anniversary together with the launching of its new branch launching at the Cebu International Convention Center, Tiens will also be opening branches in Pangasinan, Urdaneta and in Davao City next year. — Rhia de Pablo
