Samsung to maximize total solutions services

- Rhia de Pablo -

After opening its first concept shop in Cebu recently, Samsung Electronics is eyeing business growth and opportunity by providing total solutions and focusing on converging its appliances, gadgets and IT product segments.

“We will maximize the convergence trend because it will provide us with more opportunities to grow the business and expand our market reach,” said Samsung Electronics, Philippines Corporation General Manager for the Consumer Electronics Team Antonio Mauricio.

Samsung has five main business units that include: Digital Media Business, LCD Business, Semiconductor Business, Telecommunication Network Business and Digital Appliance Business.

Mauricio stressed that in their appliances segment, they have grown double digits this year carried by their LCD and slim fit colored TV innovative products that have increased in demand. At the moment, their slim fit TV and LCD TV revenue scale is at a 50% by 50% ratio but they target to achieve 90% domination of slim fit TVs by 2008.

“We are the pioneer in the Philippines for slim fit TVs so we can very well compete and achieve that goal,” said Mauricio.

Meanwhile, in their gadget segment which includes MP3 players, cellular phones, still cameras, video cams, and USB devices among others, Samsung is gearing towards providing high-end products to the AB market. And for 2008, Samsung has plans of investing on aggressive marketing effort aimed at reorganizing its structure to give this product category more focus.

Samsung’s IT products on the other hand contribute the biggest sales portion of their nationwide operation that includes CPUs, printers, LCD projectors, cables, and IT channels among others.

But Mauricio pointed out that their IT products may not necessarily stand alone as nowadays, these products can be utilized to create an appliance channel. He said that through connectivity between their LCD televisions, cell phones and other gadgets a total solution will thus be created and this is foreseen to enable a growth in the business.

And with this convergence trend in mind, Samsung will be launching better and improved feature of their Slim fit TVs next year. These units according to Mauricio are set to highlight the convergence trend wherein cellular phones and other gadgets like digital cameras or video cams can all be inter-connected and accessed in one appliance.

Samsung Electronics is considered to be the leading producer of digital TVs, memory chips, mobile phones and TFT-LCDs in the world and spends 10% of their total revenue in Regional Development.

Samsung’s biggest global market is Europe and the United States. Last 2006, it garnered parent company sales amounting to about US$63.4 billion and a net income of US$8.5 billion. This year, they are targeting to achieve US$100 billion sales.
