- Ehda Dagooc -
Four international Information Technology (IT) infrastructure providers were here in Cebu to update companies on the latest trends of IT platforms.

In cooperation with Micro D International, Inc. (MDi), the four IT providers gathered over a hundred IT professionals, and chief information officers (CIOs) of Cebu-based firms to be oriented on the top-of-the-line services and hardware in IT infrastructure today, that are also adopted by big companies globally.

Dell Asia Pacific SDN, IronPort Systems Inc., EMC Computer Systems (FE) Ltd., and Junifer Networks Inc., sent their representatives to Cebu to showcase new products in technology today, and help CIOs and IT professionals maximize IT to accelerate business growth.

Dubbed as "Product & Technology Update," the event was hosted by MDi, in order to provide their clients the latest update in technology.

MDi, a system integrator company, distributes products and services of these four IT companies to Cebu, and other areas in Southern Philippines.

"It is important that Cebu companies, especially those that recognized IT as vital tool to improve their businesses' competitiveness, to be updated and oriented with what are the latest now," said MDi Cebu branch manager Randy Pino.

Dell Asia Pacific, presented to participants the trends on computing, new products in IT hardware, while Juniper Networks gave updates on the security and Wireless Application Network (WAN). EMC, on the other hand, dished out its sophisticated products on storage, and IronPort discussed on the effective prevention of e-mail spam and how to adopt e-mail security.

Pino said Cebu is now considered as one of the interesting areas where IT service and product providers could expect growth in their businesses.

"There is a wide market for IT support infrastructure business. One company may need several IT service and product providers for their entire IT platforms," Pino said.

In his talk which tackled on "Gateway to Email Security", IronPort Systems Inc., technical consultant Anurak Chuetanapinyo said companies should be able to get high performance devices to protect e-mail SPAMS which are the carriers of viruses, in order to safeguard confidential information, as well as avoid system or hardware breakdown, due to viruses.

He said "hackers" are extremely wise and constantly developing viruses that are meant to get confidential information, and significantly damage an organization's technology platform.
