Metaphil partners with TESDA for manpower training institute

- Ehda Dagooc -
The construction arm of the Aboitiz Group-Metaphil Division has partnered with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) for the establishment of a training institute to build up its manpower pool.

A Metaphil-TESDA Institute will be established to grant technical scholarships to selected beneficiaries both from within and outside Metaphil's current pool of skilled workers.

Metaphil specializes in electro-mechanical and civil project including steel fabrication works on a design, installation or turnkey basis.

During the signing of memorandum of agreement (MOA), Metaphil announced that with the Metaphil-TESDA Institute for Technical Training (MTITT), Metaphil aims to strengthen its pool of qualified manpower, upgrade the skills of its workers, and train selected candidates from the community to provide them employment opportunities.

Under the MOA, Metaphil will provide the necessary funding and logistical support during the course of the welding skills training programs, as well as the complementary technical support in program implementation.

For its part, TESDA will provide access to training facilities, resource persons/training personnel, training methodologies, and technical & administrative assistance. It will design a customized curriculum to address the specific training needs of Metaphil.

TESDA will also assist Metaphil in establishing itself as an accredited assessment center in welding, and provide access to MTITT's graduate registry for Metaphil's manpower pool.

Those pre-qualified for the scholarships are Metaphil's project contract skilled workers (fitters and welders) and non-Metaphil workers from Mandaue, Balamban, Toledo, and other areas to be identified by both Metaphil and the Aboitiz Group Foundation, Inc.

Selection process for Metaphil workers will be based on performance, attendance, years of experience and years of service with the company.

For non-Metaphil workers, applicants for the training should be at least high school graduates, 20-35 years old, of good moral character, and should pass both a qualifying trades test and medical screening.

Applicants also have to be endorsed by TESDA region VII, the Aboitiz Group Foundation and/or Metaphil.

Metaphil will be appointing one Technical Training Officer who will be closely monitoring the whole MTITT program, which include; designing, developing, conducting, and evaluating MTITT technical training programs and scholarship grants.

TESDA on the other hand, will appoint trainers to conduct the technical/skills training programs. The trainers will customize the standard TESDA training modules to fit the competency requirements of Metaphil operations and will have the said course registered with TVET. They will also conduct competency assessments and issue the corresponding certifications.
