Electronics firm allocates $910 for educational fund

- Ehda Dagooc -
An electronics manufacturing firm at the Mactan Export Zone (MEZ) is allocating an annual budget of about $910 to uplift the quality of education in its neighboring barangays in Mactan Island.

In a press statement, Zosima Tampus, FSC community outreach officer said the company has recognized the need to develop a good pool of manpower in the future.

Tampus said the focus of the company's outreach programs is more on promoting the quality of education of the public schools in Lapu-Lapu City, especially those near the Mactan Economic Zone 1, where FSC is located.

"We see this children living in Lapu-Lapu City as our future employees, thus we believe that the company must help in molding them into better persons and productive citizens," she said.

FSC's adopted school since 2001, Ibo Elementary School, has been receiving donations in the form of classroom construction and school supplies for the students from the company.

Next month, the company will deliver some 110 school chairs to the school. FSC also plans to conduct computer training to the students in the higher elementary level.

"FSC envisions for the school's graduates to be able to compete with students from private schools," Tampus said.

This year, FSC is participating in the "Help Send a Child to School" program of the Department of Education.

Although the company has not decided yet which among the 10 schools recommended by DepEd it will adopt, Tampus said the company has distributed school supplies such as pencils, notebooks and pad papers to the students of Timpolok Elementary School and Tiange Elementary school, both located in Lapu-Lapu City.

She said the company is still in the process of deciding as to which school it will help. But some of its considerations are the state of the school's infrastructure and the source of income of the parents of the children.

It's not only FSC, which is now allocating huge amount to uplift the quality of education in the Philippines, other multinational firms, and conglomerates have also ventured in this long term development tool to product quality of human resource in the Philippines in the long term scenario.

Some are focusing on introducing to public-school students to technology, such as computer donation, Internet access, teachers' training, and others.
