Mga nagme-menopause, may nagco-coach na rin!

Speaking of perimenopausal, last Monday ay nakadalo kami sa MOA (Memorandum of Agreement) signing sa pagitan ng Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) and WMPOWER (Women in Midlife for Partnership, Openness, Wellness, Equity & Reform).

Closing the “missing middle” (midlife)).

Ang mga karanasang ito ay maaaring makaapekto sa physical and emotional well-being, productivity, relationships and quality of life.

“We welcome partnerships that bring women’s lived realities into the spaces where policies, programs and interventions are shaped. Midlife women deserve to be seen not only as beneficiaries, but as active contributors to our families, communities, workplaces and the economy,” said PCW Chairperson Ermelita V. Valdeavilla.

For WMPOWER President, Bel Laureola, the MOU marks an important step in moving the advocacy from conversation to action.

“What began as a conversation about women in midlife can now become a broader movement for awareness, support and meaningful change. We are committed to bringing the voices and lived experiences of midlife women to the table and working with PCW and our current and future partners to translate these into programs and initiatives that create real impact.”

Ayon naman kay Dr. Stephanie Supan, Head of Menopause Department of St. Luke’s Hospital, Quezon City, nag-uumpisa ang perimenopausal symptoms limang taon bago ang menopausal period. “And then it can last for another five to seven years after that. So it’s quite a long time for something like that.”

Or maraming na bang open with that case? tanong namin.

“We actually have a menopause clinic. So we offer that for menopausal women who have concerns to consult. Pero sadly, this is nationwide. A lot of menopausal women don’t consult for that specific concern. Minsan pupunta sila for vaginal dryness, pupunta sila for hot flashes, joint pains. Pero bihira talaga ‘yung specific na pupunta na, I’m entering perimenopause, I need to do something about it in preparation. So bihira. And that’s what we want to encourage.”

May mga celebrity kayo na patient?

“Meron din. Kasi I’m based mostly at St. Luke’s QC. So mostly private patients.”

Anong normal concerns nila?

“Ang kadalasan nilang concerns of hot flashes, sleep disturbances o hindi makatulog, tsaka genital dryness, syempre  relationship with their partners affected. Sinisabi nila I’m the only one now. Kapag Ginoogle mo, I’m the only one that comes out. Pero may nakikita ako. Pero iba ‘yung kanyang focus. Ang focus niya is more on strength training. Ako kasi ang focus ko more on the lifestyle and relationship. So, kapag nagsasalita ako sa mga engagements namin, events, it’s more on that ang focus ko. But with my coaches, overall coaching siya.”

Yup you read it right, pwede na ring magpa-coach ang mga nami-menopause.

“Yes, the menopausal coach. Kasi parang minsan kasi may affiliation kapag kausap ay doctor. So, ako I make it more lay level para ma-explain. Pero, I’m not here to replace doctors. So, kailangan pa rin makita.”

Don’t you have plans of, kunyari, getting a celebrity endorsement?

“Of course, there’s a plan. Well, in as far as, we were just talking about the foundational toolkit, that would be applicable to all private, public offices.”

Hmmm, baka pwede rito si Ina Raymundo.
