Escudero donor summoned

MANILA, Philippines — Former Senate president Francis Escudero’s campaign donor in the 2022 elections has been subpoenaed, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said yesterday.
“Preliminary investigation will be conducted,” Comelec Chairman George Garcia told reporters.
Contributors and those who benefited from the donation will be dealt with, Garcia said.
A possible violation of Statement of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE) rules does not automatically result in disqualification, Garcia noted.
“If you fail to file the SOCE twice, maybe that will (warrant) perpetual disqualification to hold public office,” he said.
Lawyer Jesus Falcis had filed a complaint against Escudero, stemming from the P30 million donated by a government contractor for his campaign.
