Sony Ericsson expands 3G, Walkman line-up

Sony Ericsson showcased recently an expanded product line-up that includes 3G phones, the popular Walkman music phones and a new range of entry-level handsets.

A major sponsor of the Smart Wireless Engineering Education Program (SWEEP) Awards, Sony Ericsson demonstrated three handset models with 3G capability at the event.

They included the W900i Walkman phone, which is also a full-spec music player and imaging device with a two-megapixel camera; the Z800i clamshell phone with Motion Eye camera and a host of business productivity functions; and the sleekly designed K600i, an aluminum 1.3-megapixel camera phone with FM radio and 3D games.

Sony Ericsson’s Walkman phone range began with the W800i, the first mobile phone that combined a high-quality music player with a two-megapixel camera. This was followed by the swivel-designed W550i, which has a 256MB internal memory.

Sony Ericsson also announced the latest model in the Walkman phone range, the W810i, at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last month.

This new quad-band EDGE phone supports industry standard MP3 and AAC music tracks.

The W810i comes with the 512 MB Memory Stick PRO Duo, which provides capacity for approximately 120 music tracks, the equivalent of 10 or more CDs; as well as HPM-70 stereo headphones with a standard 3.5mm headphone jack for personal customization.

The W810i is equipped with EDGE Class 10 technology to allow quick and easy data transfers and Internet access, and connectivity with Bluetooth-enabled hands-free headsets and other devices.

Banking on the popularity of mobile music players, Sony Ericsson also unveiled Walkman-branded compact speakers, the MPS-60 portable speakers and the MDS-60 music desk stand speakers.

Attached to a Sony Ericsson mobile phone, these lightweight yet rich-sounding speakers allow you to share your favorite music wherever you go.

The MPS-60 is powered by the mobile phone, while the foldable MDS-60 can also serve as a mobile phone charger.

The MDS-60 and MPS-60 are the newest additions to a complete portfolio of Sony Ericsson music accessories, which include, among other products, the stereo portable hands-free HPM-70, the FM music transmitter MMR-60, the music cable MMC-60 and the home audio system MDS-70.

On the entry-level handset side, the Sony Ericsson J220i and J230i allow users to personalize their menu view by choosing between a visually simple single icon menu and the popular Sony Ericsson multi-icon menu that gives an at-a-glance overview of all the key functions.

The one-click navigation key and icon markings on the navigation key make it simpler and easier to access the most commonly used functions.

The J230i adds FM radio, stereo hands-free and a speakerphone functions.

These handsets can store up to 500 phone numbers and up to 200 SMS.

The J220i is available in smooth black and sky blue colors, while the J230i comes in cosmo white, cherry red and deep blue. Both can be personalized with Style-Up covers.

Finally, the Z300i clamshell phone comes bundled with Crystal Décor beads which can be used to personalize the phone.

Open the clamshell to reveal a bright, sharp color display, a large keypad, plus a navigation key that reaches all the main functions in one click.

The Z300i, which comes in granite gray and amethyst purple, also offers a phone book, calendar, alarm clock, games, reminders, and allows consumers to personalize with the Style-Up covers.

The new range of Sony Ericsson mobile phones and accessories is now available at Sony Ericsson Concept Shops and authorized distributors nationwide.
