Eala gets highest Grand Slam seeding
CEBU, Philippines — Alex Eala is seeded No.17 in the 2026 US Open, which takes place from August 30 to September 13 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, New York.
It’s by far the highest seeding for the Filipina tennis sensation in a Grand Slam tournament.
She will take on a qualifier in the first round.
If victorious, Eala will next face either Oleksandra Oliynykova of Ukraine or Reese Brantmeier of the United States.
The real battle for the 21-year-old Eala begins in the third round, where she could potentially go up against her close friend and rival Iva Jovic.
They have met twice before in the WTA Tour, with the American winning both matches.
Just yesterday, Jovic reaffirmed her mastery over Eala when she beat the Filipina rising star 6-3 in their Stars of the Open exhibition match ahead of the US Open. — EBV
