Team Welec crowned champions in Guadalupe cage wars
CEBU, Philippines — Team Welec outclassed Mighty Warriors, 79-67, in the final match to emerge as champions of the Guadalupe Inter-Commercial Basketball Tournament 2026 last Saturday evening, July 18, at the Barangay Guadalupe Multi-Purpose Gym in Cebu City.
Welec finished the tournament with a perfect 4-0 record to take home the P150,000 cash prize.
“Mapasalamaton ko sa Welec management led by our team owner Wendel “Boss Onto” Lecen, team manager “Badboy ng Cebu” Ed Tan, and manoy Roche sa opportunity to coach and deliver the championship in my very first attempt,” said Welec head coach Gary Cortes.
Bannered by ex-PBA player Brian Heruela, former Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) Most Valuable Players Kent Ivo Salarda and Raul Gentallan, and big man Ivan Clark Alsola who went on to grab the Finals MVP award, Welec seized command early and rolled to a 46-32 advantage at halftime.
Welec kept its hot charge to stretch its lead to 16 points, 66-50, after three quarters.
It was cruise control for Welec from there onwards, effectively sealing a double-digit victory.
The Mighty Warriors still have something to be happy about as they pocketed P100,000 for being the first runner-up while the Tuburan 360 Coffee received P50,000 after beating AMC Construction, 98-92, in the battle for third place.
