'The best partner': Eala, Venus Williams relish Bad Homburg doubles’ stint

MANILA, Philippines -- Their dream pairing may have ended for now, but Alex Eala and American tennis legend Venus Williams playing together was definitely a sight to behold. 

The two tennisters tipped their hats to each other as they bowed out of the Bad Homburg doubles’ quarterfinal Thursday evening. 

Eala and Willliams fell against Olivia Nicholls and Tereza Mihalikova, 6-3, 6-2, Thursday, ending the partnership after two matches. 

In an Instagram post, the Filipina Eala looked back on her time sharing the court with Williams with fondness.

“Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that I’d have the privilege of competing alongside you on court [Williams!]” Eala said. 

“Immensely grateful to learn from you.” 

Williams, for her part, posted on her Instagram story that her time with Eala was “the best ride, the best tournament, the best partner.” 

The pair defeated Alexandra Osborne and Catherine Harrison in the first round of the doubles’ action, before they faced the second-seeded duo of Nicholls and Mihalikova. 

Now, both Williams and Eala are setting their sights on Wimbledon. 

The Grand Slam is set to start towards the end of the month.
