Sony unveils new VAIO notebooks

MANILA, Philippines – Sony Philippines recently took the wraps off two of its new notebooks: the VAIO W mini-notebook and the NW lifestyle-oriented notebook series.

Sporting a compact form factor with softly rounded edges, the VAIO W series is ideal as a secondary PC, to be used in any room of the house, for surfing the Web, checking e-mail, and for social networking.

The VAIO W series comes in three vibrant colors: white, pink, and brown. A more subtle shade of the exterior hue adorns the inside, while the touchpad is lined with bright accents.

Its contoured design that fits snugly and comfortable in your hands also fits into the user’s lifestyle: matching accessories, mouse and pouches are available for coordination.

The VAIO W series boasts a high-resolution 1366 x 768 10.1-inch wide-format backlit LED screen that enables easy, comfortable viewing of webpages with a side window for video chatting.

This Sony features an isolation keyboard with springy and responsive keys that makes typing more comfortable, and at the same time, reduces typing errors. Its carefully designed touchpad and mouse keys also enhance functionality and ease of use.

The VAIO Media plus — a VAIO original software— allows easy access to your photos and music. It lets you easily transfer data such as photos or music files from your digital camera or music player to and from the VAIO W series with the unit’s two convenient USB ports.

A built-in webcam and microphone lets you video chat with family, friends and colleagues.

A 160GB hard drive provides ample storage for all your photos, files, and videos. The VAIO W series comes pre-installed with Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition operating system.

Pre-selling of this model will be from July 31 to Aug. 16, giving buyers the opportunity to secure their own VAIO W mini notebook even before it lands on Philippine shores.

The VAIO NW notebook, on the other hand, comes from Sony’s new line of lifestyle-oriented PCs. It has a classy design composed of new textures, two-tone colors, and a clear touchpad, combined with 15.5-inch Real Wide (16:9 aspect ratio) screen, and user-friendly functions, including Quick Web Access for instant Web browsing.

The classy VAIO NW’s surface texture is patterned on a visual motif of the natural world, with the soft two-tone color blending the outside and inside tones and the clear touchpad with dotted pattern giving an accent to the overall design.

To enhance usability, the combination of the one-piece waved body and the isolation keyboard contributes to fatigue-free operation and reduced typing errors.

The large 15.5-inch Real Wide LCD vibrantly displays photos and home videos over the entire 16:9 aspect ratio screen, while the reverse hinge reduces the footprint, thus minimizing the space required for storage.

Also, thanks to the HDMI output connector and Sony’s Resolution Utility, the images can easily be displayed on a larger screen TV.

The VAIO NW is equipped with a Quick Web Access function — one push to launch directly into the Web without having to wait for the Windows operating system to load.

The Display Off button conserves power by letting users turn off the screen as the notebook continues to run in the background, while still allowing a quick resume.

And to enhance the music and photo experience, the following Sony entertainment software applications are pre-installed: PMB (Picture Motion Browser), an easy-to-use organizer to keep memorable photos and videos; VAIO Movie Story, an easy way to produce your own high-quality home movies; and VAIO MusicBox, a fun and automated way to enjoy music based on one’s mood.

The VAIO NW is equipped with fast and reliable performance, an Intel Core2 Duo Processor, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 graphics card, 250GB hard disk drive, and 2GB of RAM. Wireless LAN and Bluetooth provide connectivity. Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bit comes pre-installed.

The VAIO NW is also an eco-conscious model. It is Energy Star 5.0-compliant and comes in a new slim package that is made up of 98-percent recycled content.
