CIOs prefer Oracle database – survey

REDWOOD SHORES, California – Oracle Corp., the largest provider of software for e-business, has announced an independent survey published by Morgan Stanley showing Oracle as the preferred database provider among top IT executives.

More than 50 percent of the 225 chief information officers (CIOs) surveyed cited Oracle as their preferred database vendor. Microsoft SQL Server and IBM DB2 were chosen by 24 and 19 percent, respectively, of the respondents.

These results were consistent with findings from previous CIO surveys conducted by Morgan Stanley, which also cited plans to reduce dependencies on mainframe systems.

According to the report, "Morgan Stanley CIO Survey Series: Release 2.2," Oracle continues to show signs of strong leadership in database marketing among CIOs who are mostly familiar with today’s databases.
