BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – Leaders around the globe are gathering this November in the United Kingdom to iron out convergence strategies to reverse the effects of climate change.
British Ambassador Daniel Pruce, on the sidelines of a visit in Ilocos Norte to inspect a UK-funded flood control project in Vintar town earlier this month, said the United Kingdom has prepared activities promoting strategies to mitigate the effects of climate change, to be presented at the 2020 UN Climate Change Conference – 26th session of the Conference of the Parties or COP26 on Nov. 9-10.
The UK has long been a champion in addressing climate change and globally recognized as a thought leader, Pruce said.
“This year, the UK will host the vital UN climate conference, COP26, where the world’s climate change champions will meet to agree on more ambitious action. The challenge is not insignificant, but we must step up to it to save the environment we all live in,” he said.
The British government, which co-hosts this year’s biggest global conference on climate change alongside Italy, is busy preparing for the event.
Pruce said COP26 is the biggest summit that the UK has ever hosted, bringing together over 30,000 delegates from all over the world.
“There, we need countries, cities, states and businesses to move onto a credible path to reach net zero globally in the coming decades,” he said.
Pruce said there will be a final agreement to repair the damage done in a decade by climate change to the natural environment. “Helping communities prepare better for climate impacts, we need to make a step-change in adaptation and resilience investment, insurance and expertise particularly in developing countries,” he said.
