MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Robotics Team, represented by Dr. Yanga’s College Inc., bagged first place in Best Project Presentation at the First Lego League World Festival held last April 23-26 in St. Louis, Missouri in the United States. The team bested 81 teams from 36 countries.
For this year’s event, with the theme “Nature’s Fury,†the winning entry was named “AHON†or All-around Homing Operative of Nature, an advanced early warning system capable of detecting floods, earthquakes, tsunami, and wildfires.
Sensors would detect these coming disasters and trigger differently colored light signals on the warning device: green for flood, orange for earthquake, red for wildfire, and blue for tsunami.
An accompanying map would then show the compromised areas, as well as alternative routes to the nearest evacuation centers.
Another project was AGAP, or All-around Goods Assistance Processor, an autonomous repacker and distributor of relief goods and first aid kits.
The robot is designed to effectively package materials without minimal human intervention, thus helping mitigate pilferage, a common problem in relief and rehabilitation operations.
The Lego League is an annual international robotics and technology event that showcases students’ robotics design and programming, with a focus on values and professionalism.
