MANILA, Philippines - More than two years ago, Dr. John Reyes, who specializes in internal medicine, described himself as “morbidly obese.” He weighed over 330 pounds, even though with a height of 5’11”.
Funny thing is, although a doctor himself, it would be weird for him to tell his patients to lose weight and watch what they eat for fear that he would be told to practice first what he preaches.
“At that time I was taking six different medicine to control my high blood pressure, cholesterol and high sugar level. I also have gout attacks once a month that is totally painful, plus spine and back problems because of my weight,” Reyes says.
But all that changed when he entered a program on body cleansing, which he says was the main trigger point, and the program included juicing as part of his daily routine.
As an internist, Reyes knows the importance of the body’s vital organs like the kidneys, which filter the body’s fluids and other wastes through urination. A healthy diet, including consumption of juices, plays a major part in keeping the body healthy, nourished and strong.
For Reyes, it is the aspect of juicing that caught his attention, especially since he desperately wanted to be healthy and lose weight.
“Juicing is really essential to a healthy diet and if you want to lose weight. In fact before, I did not even know the difference between juicing and blending. By juicing, essential micronutrients are preserved and the nutrients are quickly absorbed by the body, unlike in blending or making purees,” he says.
Since then, upon realizing the tremendous effects of juicing, it has now become a way of life for Reyes. A typical day for him starts with green juice in the morning followed by juice from apple, pineapple with carrot and ginger. It has been like that for him for the past two years now.
He even has a concoction he calls the “charantia” shooter, which he follows with a carrot-cucumber combo. He also makes variations like beet, green bell pepper and apple or celery-cucumber-ginger for weight loss, and even includes greens like cabbage, spinach and malunggay.
The effects have been remarkable, he says, particularly on his immune system. “I used to suffer from flu and tonsillitis every quarter. I easily got sick and had no energy. But that changed when I started juicing. I feel the difference once I wake up and start my day. I don’t feel sluggish; I feel alert and awake the whole day. More importantly, it helped me lose weight by up to 120 pounds,” he says.
He also credits his juicing success to the juicing appliance he is using now, pointing out that he tried five brands of juicers in search of the perfect juicer. Luckily, he stumbled upon the Hurom Slow Juicer one weekend in Makati.
He thought that Hurom should really be the thing for him, with all the awards it won, its outstanding features, and the fact that it was even featured in Oprah’s “O” list.
It turned out that choosing Hurom Slow Juicer was the best decision Reyes ever made in his life. “The Hurom is really fantastic. Now, I talk to people about its benefits, what juicing does to the body and to one’s health, and how dependable and durable Hurom Slow Juicer is. Once, we used three juicers during an event for six hours straight to provide juices to hundreds of people, and the Hurom was up to the challenge,” he says.
With the drastic and positive things that happened to him because of juicing and using Hurom Slow Juicer, Reyes recommends that every family should go into juicing and use Hurom. But as a quick reminder, he says that for those who want to experience the healing power of juicing, they should ask a trained medical professional on what types of juices they need based on their condition.
The revolutionary Hurom Slow Juicer is available at Rustan’s department stores and is distributed in the Philippines by Zinven International Corp. For more details about the Hurom Slow Juicer, visit www.hurom-slowjuicer.com.
