Dr. Gil Vicente, overall chairman of this annual affair, said the convention aims to lay down the foundation for a holistic approach to the management of head and neck cancer in a national level.
It envisions a unidirectional goal by all head and neck cancer specialists in the elimination of the disease.
It will feature scientific sessions dealing with the molecular biology and theories of head and neck cancer, its surgical, radiotherapeutic and chemotherapeutic management as well as alternative and complementary approach to the disease.
A press conference on head and neck cancer will precede the event and will highlight the need for an all-out widespread information campaign.
Authorities in the field of head and neck cancer have been invited. They include Prof. Eugene Myers, of the United States, a world-renowned ENT oncologist; Prof. Ashok Shaha of Sloan Kettering Memorial Medical Center in New York; and Prof. Kate Dinshaw of the International Atomic Energy Commission.
Local authorities include Dr. Corazon Ngelangel, renowned medical oncologist; Dr. Romulo de Villa, president of the Molecular Oncology Society of the Philippines; and Dr. Jaime Galvez Tan, former secretary of health.
There will also be a breakfast conference with a lecture on Coping and Living with Cancer by Francis Kong.
Guest speaker during the opening ceremonies is Kara Magsanoc-Alikpala, founder of I Can Serve Foundation.
Dr. Felix Nolasco, president of the Philippine Society of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Inc., will lead the ceremonies.
