SHFC leads post-Yolanda rehab program

MANILA, Philippines - Social Housing Finance Corp. (SHFC), the lead state agency providing flexible, affordable, innovative and responsive shelter financing solutions to underprivileged communities, recently launched a community-driven project in Roxas City aimed at promoting recovery and rehabilitation for families devastated by Super Typhoon Yolanda. In partnership with UN-Habitat Philippines, the Government of Japan, and the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council, the project will facilitate training programs for 250 local semi-skilled artisans in disaster risk resilient housing construction to help them build 610 typhoon-resistant homes. At the ribbon cutting ceremony for a newly-constructed pilot house in Villa Carmel Village, Brgy. Baybay are UN-Habitat human settlements officer Bernhard Barth, Second Secretary Koji Otani of the Japan Embassy, HUDCC Undersecretary Cecilia Alba, Roxie Abagatnan of the Office of the Presidential Adviser for Rehabilitation and Recovery, Capiz officials led by Gov. Victor Tanco, and SHFC president Ma. Ana Oliveros.
