MANILA, Philippines - Green architecture is reflected in building designs that use natural elements to conserve energy, such as sunlight for lighting and wind for ventilation. Green Architects also use eco-friendly and sustainable materials and technologies. The concept further includes unseen components such as biodegradable chemicals applied on the soil to protect properties against termites. These are dubbed “green” termiticides because they are harmless to the soil and safe to people who apply it and the building occupants.
The wide use of green termiticide nowadays shows that pest management companies are serious partners in promoting green architecture. Leading this trend in the Philippines is Julant Pest Control Systems Inc. As the company responsible for the on-construction termite management of practically all landmark construction projects in the country such as the NAIA Terminal 3, Serendra Residential Complex, Anvaya Cove, Otis 888, Celadon Residences, all DMCI Homes residential projects and many others, Julant is undoubtedly the lead promoter of green termite control in the country.
A family corporation established in 1989 by Tony Sarmiento Jr., Julant chairman and president, in honor of his parents Juliana and Antonio Sarmiento, Julant owes its success to its patented Julant Anti-Termite Reticulation System, an irrigation system designed to serve as facility for soil retreatment work anytime in the future.
“Termite control is, after all, a continuing program. It is not a one-time activity. Accordingly, you need to have a built-in tool in termite management that can be used for the rest of the building life – Julant’s Anti-Termite Reticulation System,” says Tony Sarmiento Jr.
Julant collaborates with Green Architecture advocates in the development of on-construction termite management programs. Among them are notable and distinguished Architects William Coscolluela (W.V. Coscolluela and Associates); Rick dela Rosa (GF and Partners); Albert Yu (ASYA Design Partners); Francisco Mañosa (Mañosa and Company, Inc.); Carmelo “Caloy” Casas (Casas + Architects); Francis Santa Romana (FL Santa Romana and Associates) and other well-meaning Designs consultants.
Quite recently, Tony Sarmiento Jr. signed up for membership in the Green Architecture Advocacy Philippines, Inc., a strong promoter to global adoption of sustainable green development and building practices. To further boost its adherence to green architecture, Julant now utilizes BASF’s green-band termiticide Stedfast in all its on-construction termite management jobs, a decision that is in total accord with Julant’s support for green-labeled termiticide.
