Goodbye to termites

When Joy Ejercito designed their family home in Ayala Alabang, she envisioned an airy, spacious abode that can accommodate the needs of her husband and three young children. A freelance interior designer whose family was in the furniture and construction business, Joy made sure that their house would not only have generously-spaced rooms for entertaining, but also a playroom for the kids and an office for Joy and husband Don, a laparoscopic surgeon at the Asian Hospital.

The Spanish-Mediterranean inspired house was built in 2001, and after renting it out at first, the Ejercito family finally moved into their home in 2004. But while the rest of the house is still in very good condition, the couple noticed that a termite infestation has begun in the children’s playroom.

"My husband and I were really very concerned about the infestation since it was in the playroom," shared Joy, "so we immediately went looking for a pest-control service to help us out." After learning about the Sentricon® Termite Colony Elimination System from friends and neighbors, the Ejercitos immediately contracted Sentricon Authorized Operator (AO) Pest-Away to install the system in their home.

Developed by US-based Dow Agro Sciences, Sentricon provides treatment not by acting as a mere repellent but by instead working its way to the heart of the problem: eliminating termite colonies by targeting its worker termites — the colony’s food hunters. Though other baiting systems appear to work in the same capacity as Sentricon, these cannot ensure that the entire colony will be eliminated as they function only to lure any termite to the bait. The Sentricon system is a highly effective solution because in eliminating worker termites, Sentricon directly curtails proliferation of colonies that causes infestations.

Sentricon is also an environmentally responsible product, utilizing chemicals only where termites are present, and using just a few grams of active ingredient per home as opposed to hundreds of gallons of termiticide used in a liquid chemical treatment. "This is very important, especially since there are young children in the Ejercito home," said Arlene David of Pest-Away. "The Sentricon system is safe to have around children or even pets, since the treatment contraptions are properly sealed and discreetly placed. It also does not require drilling, digging or heavy chemical application, which can be quite inconvenient for households," added Ms. David.

After having undergone extensive testing and evaluation in the United States, Sentricon has now been proven to be the best termite infestation solution, more effective than any termite control option available in the market today. It has even been used to prevent termite infestation for important historical landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty, the White House, and the centuries old Iolani Palace, the Hawaiian monarchy’s former residence turned museum.

In the Philippines, a growing number of homes have come to rely on Sentricon to get rid of their termite problems. "My neighbors in Ayala Alabang, and even my mother-in-law, used Sentricon to get rid of their termite problems," said Joy.
