The Meralco Management and Leadership Center (MMLDC) runs a "campus in the hills and classrooms that extend into the forests" for corporate training and events that go beyond the usual setup of hotels, restaurants, resorts and the office’s conference rooms.
Not only that, MMLDC is also a place where a "sense of community" is formed and appreciation for the nature is heightened.
Proof of MMLDC’s world-class caliber in terms of amenities and service is that it will host the entire second day of the 32nd ARTDO (Asian Regional Training and Development Organization) Sept. 8.
"We are very honored to host this prestigious international event whose members are HR and management specialists from over 30 countries worldwide," said Agnes Fidelino, MMLDC’s managing director.
The group chose MMLDC’s because its environment exudes a refreshing ambience that not only promotes creativity and receptiveness to new learning – it also imbibes a sense of oneness with nature that fosters personal growth.
The center was established in 1999 initially to serve as the training site for the employees and officers of Manila Electric Company (Meralco). "It was envisioned to become a ‘corporate university’ dedicated to professionalism. Shortly after it opened though, other companies became interested to use the venue for their own training needs, so we are now open to them," Agnes said.
Formerly a fruit farm, the expansive venue occupies a nine-hectare complex in the hills of Antipolo along Sumulong Highway. The emphasis on learning is prominent in the stunning architecture of the facility designed by multi-awarded architect, Philip H. Recto. Modern, minimalist interiors, smooth white surfaces and glass curtain walls characterize structures for a ‘feel’ of the new age. These are complemented to great effect by the surrounding natural elements: about 3,000 trees, 108 rare and exotic birds, and other features that encourage visitors to breathe in the countryside.
There are various facilities catering to the ultimate goal of expanding excellence. For one, the Residence Hall is the biggest building nestled at the highest point on the site of the MMLDC, affording guests a sanctuary to head to for rest and relaxation after a long day of lectures and training sessions. Designed for the utmost comfort of guests, it can accommodate up to 180 participants at a time.
To serve the other needs of guests, there is a chapel, lounge, clinic, safety deposit boxes, game room, gym, and a basketball/volleyball court. Golfing enthusiasts may also try out the center’s pitch-and-putt amenities. While a paintball area is meanwhile open for adventure seekers.
