MANILA, Philippines - Cities. Mountains. Snow. Flood. On road and Off road. These are the ideal conditions for the unique Audi Quattro all-wheel drive system. First introduced in 1980 in the legendary Audi Ur-Quattro rally car, its success story has continued for decades, with the introduction of the first RS model—the RS2 Avant in 1994, to the latest Audi model line-up. The Quattro badge has also made it to the R18’s used in the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race.
“Quattro is a success story that is truly unique: Between 1980 and 2012, Audi produced around 3.5 million cars with Quattro drive. This makes Audi one of the most successful premium manufacturers of motor vehicles with permanent all-wheel drive anywhere in the world,†said Luca de Meo, member of the board of management for marketing and sales of Audi AG.
The Quattro all-wheel drive system brings a whole new level of driving experience with unlimited possibilities. Audi’s land of Quattro campaign takes you to a whole new journey experienced not only in Germany, but also in Russia, Austria, Italy, Canada, India and in many other countries.
And now, the Land of Quattro experience has arrived as Audi Philippines makes a huge step by bringing in Audi’s top performance models—the new R8, the new RS4 and the latest RS6 on top of the high performance A6, A7, A8, Q3, Q5 and Q7 quattro models.
The Audi R8
Audi’s high-performance sports car is now more dynamic and powerful than ever before thanks to numerous improvements, including a newly developed seven-speed S tronic. Power is delivered to the road via the Quattro permanent all-wheel drive system with a rear-axle bias. Audi is demonstrating its expertise in ultra-lightweight construction technology with the updated R8 V8 Coupé weighing just 1,560 kilograms thanks to the Audi ultra-lightweight construction principle – the Audi Space Frame. In addition, the brakes are incredibly powerful. Audi also offers optional carbon fiber-ceramic discs that are even lighter, yet extremely durable and long-lasting.
The exterior design has been honed ever further. The restructured all-LED headlights and rear lights, standard with all models, set accents with its distinctive design details. The single frame grille with tapered corners at the top, the redesigned diffuser and the large, round tailpipes are the most eye-catching new features. The alloy wheels, which measure 19 inches and up in diameter, come in a variety of new designs.
The Audi RS4 Avant
The new RS4 Avant unites powerful performance with outstanding everyday practicality. The quattro permanent all-wheel drive system employs a crown-gear center differential ensuring maximum grip and performance at every turn. Very compact and lightweight, it varies the distribution of power between the front and rear axles immediately and smoothly. As with all RS models, it is really a wide-bodied variant with flared wheel arches that are noticeable right away.
Although the RS4 is heavier and is 0.1 of a second slower a hundred kilometer per hour than the RS5, on the road, however, the latest Audi model takes the game to another level with its excellent balance and cornering response.
Whether on the road or on the track, the RS4 continues to show its spirit. Its responsive electric steering can be adjusted via the Multi Media Interface (MMI) to give the preferred amount of assistance ensuring an organic driving feel. The MMI is also flexible enough to allow custom settings for engine, transmission and suspension.
The RS6 Avant’s RS badge means this five door car is meant for more than shuttling the family around on weekends. Its 560bhp 4.0 TFSI and quattro permanent all-wheel drive assures you’ll be first off the mark when the lights turn green.
The new RS6 has shed 100kg, is more economical with the engine now utilizes twin turbo V8 configuration as opposed the natural aspirated 5 liter V10 of the previous generation RS6 producing equivalent power yet reduces overall emissions and fuel consumption.
The RS6 easily zooms up to and beyond 280 kph and close to a top speed of 305 kph, but the RS6 is still an ideal family car with its spacious and flexible interior offering plenty of room. It promises comfort and safety, uses fuel efficient technology, and user friendly Audi Multi Media Interface (MMI) to automatically adjust the engine, transmission, suspension, as well as, entertainment and communication.
“This is a wolf in a sheep’s clothing,†said Danish Le Mans record-holder Tom Kristensen “The car goes like a bullet. Once you touch the gas it’s like launching a rocket.â€
Truly, the R8, RS4 and RS6 are worthy of their RS badge. Audi has raised the bar to a whole new level from the svelte A6, A7 and A8 quattro models and the very road capable Q3, Q5 and Q7 quattro SUVs, reaching the very pinnacle of high performance vehicles. Audi’s superb craftsmanship and engineering promise an unparalleled, enjoyable and luxurious ride in the Land of quattro.
